 RKCR/Y&R appoints Toby Talbot as executive creative director

RKCR/Y&R is hiring Toby Talbot as its new ECD, one of the Southern Hemisphere’s brightest stars, currently the Group ECD of DDB New Zealand and Regional Creative Director for DDB Asia Pacific.

Joining as the replacement for Damon Collins, the outgoing ECD at RKCR/Y&R, Talbot will join Alison Hoad and Ben Kay in driving the agency to further success in 2012.

Toby has just been named ‘Creative of the Year for Australia/New Zealand’ by Campaign’s sister magazine, Campaign Asia and has been amongst the top three most awarded creative directors for the last eight years in Creative Brief’s annual Australasian CD rankings. He’s also ranked number one ECD over the past ten years on  He has won a host of awards during his career. His personal tally includes two gold Lions, three silver Lions, and eight bronze Lions at Cannes, Gold One Shows, Gold Clios and Silver nominations at D&AD.  

Aside from his evident creative talent, he has an innate understanding of how to build ideas and departments that are completely media neutral.

Talbot has taken DDB in New Zealand from strength to strength delivering a string of award winning work including numerous campaigns for Sky and VW and “The one that got away” for the Coast Guard Institute (see links below for examples of work) while also steering it to win three Campaign Brief agency of the year titles in the past four years.  As ECD of DDB NZ, the agency has won major awards at all the big shows in the last five years and is now one of the top five offices globally in the DDB network. Toby has been instrumental in merging direct, digital, design and PR divisions into one integrated offering.
