A new survey has suggested that many jobseekers are risking their chances of getting a job because they are not preparing properly.
A study by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has found that some job applicants are failing to prepare adequately for job interviews, putting off employers as result.
The survey suggested that many recruitment firms have received complaints from clients about their candidates' appearance and behaviour.
Nearly half said they received reports of off-putting personal hygiene habits making their way to the interview, while others complained about odd outfits and stranger answers to employers' questions.
"Candidates often feel nervous before and during interviews, which can explain odd clothing choices and erratic behaviour, but by taking the time to prepare, job hunters are much more likely to be comfortable and confident during interviews," commented REC director Tom Hadley.
Earlier this year, consumer group Which? advised jobseekers to stay up to date on their job interview rights, as employers are not allowed to ask certain questions, including those about age, length of experience and religious views.
